Job Description

We are currently seeking a skilled and professional Host(ess) to join our team at Bob's Steak and Chop House. The host(ess) is essential to the smooth operation of the restaurant. Not only does the host provide the first impression to the guest, they control the flow of the dining room. Courteously greet and escort guests to tables and assist in seating, ensuring Bob's standards of service. Assist in preparing the restaurant for service and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining room/restrooms at all times. Take reservations and maintain reservation book. Assist in monitoring the guests' needs and all phases of the operation. Assume total responsibility when Manager is not present.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar position, preferably with a luxury or ultra-luxury restaurant.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy while prioritizing tasks, following directions thoroughly, and maintaining confidentiality of guest information and hotel data.
  • Remain calm and use good judgment to resolve problems, understand guest service needs, work cohesively as part of a team, and operate with minimal supervision.
  •  Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in English with co-workers, guests and management.
  • Have a warm, friendly and hospitable personality.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Answer restaurant phone calls courteously and efficiently, following departmental standards.
  • Greet and escort guests to tables, ensuring seating arrangements meet service standards.
  • Assist in restaurant preparation and maintain cleanliness throughout service.
  • Manage reservations, maintaining an organized reservation book.
  • Monitor guests' needs and all aspects of restaurant operations.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.
  • Maintain daily superior service standards.
  • Stay informed about menu items, specials, 86'd items, and beverage selections.
  • Comply with state liquor regulations, focusing on minors, intoxicated persons, and drunk driving.
  • Know table/seat/station numbers, set-up requirements, room capacity, hours, pricing, and dress code.
  • Set up and maintain the Host(ess) station, reporting shortages as needed.
  • Inspect menus, wine lists, and the environment for cleanliness; update when necessary.
  • Ensure table and station set-ups align with departmental standards during service.
  • Guide Servers and Assistants in optimal table set-up for service.
  • Answer phones, confirm reservations, and handle cancellations per guidelines.
  • Maintain positive guest relations, greeting guests and accommodating information requests courteously.
  • Communicate V.I.P. arrivals and special requests to the appropriate personnel.
  • Address guest complaints using a six-step procedure to ensure satisfaction.
  • Monitor service standards and alert personnel to necessary corrections.
  • Oversee operations in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Document relevant information in the restaurant logbook.
  • Be familiar with the P.O.S. system and manual procedures.
  • Complete closing duties and other assigned tasks.
